The enduro segment was one of the last vacant fields for Triumph but now they finally want to leave the asphalt with the Tiger 800. You can see the at first sight, that the new enduro was developed as a direct rival to the BMW models F 650 GS and F 800 GS. Just like the Bavarians the British will offer the Tiger in two versions. The Tiger 800 with cast alloy wheels in 19 and 17 inch is the beginner-friendly, street-oriented version, while the XC type with spoked wheels and long suspension travel (see page 36) likes to go into the dirt. Identical in both versions is the 800 cc three-cylinder, that is based on the known 675 engine but is trimmed with a longer stroke to more ample torque.

KTM has neither in Cologne nor Milan presented a big blast but a trend towards a »reasonable« range of models seems to be at least visible. For example, the supermoto touring type, that is now finally – surprise, surprise – to have with a Bosch ABS. This is a good thing because touring bikes – no matter how orange it may be painted – are difficult to sell in this country without brake assist.

As previously reported, experienced the »old« F 650 GS a revival in 2011 as the G 650 GS. The entry model with the single-cylinder is optical upgraded should roll off the assembly line in the BMW plant in Berlin at the end of 2010. The single with 652 cubic capacity, fuel injection and balance shaft is robust, economical and easy to ride.

Honda surprises in 2011 with very unique novelties. It is noted that new the VFR 800 X Cross Runner probably doesn’t fit in any category. The drive is the already known V4 with the valve shut out from the VFR 800, that was trimmed for the crossover concept to a very homogenous power delivery and reduced consumption. A peak power of 102 hp is specified, the 21.5-gallon tank is supposed to guarantee a range up to 350 km. The total weight is specified with 240.4 kg …

It was certainly a very special INTERMOT, that closed its doors on October, 10th at 6 pm and this for several reasons. First, in the light of the current sales crisis the whole market was very excited to see what signals would come from this fair. Second, the main topic was »electric vehicles«.
