With the new Tiger Explorer – introduced last friday in Spain – Triumph claims to build the best adventure bike. The highest power output in the segment, high-quality components, support systems and comprehensive equipment as standard might make the bike a serious competitor to the previously undisputed champion BMW R 1200 GS.
The newly developed three-cylinder engine of the Tiger Explorer with an output of 137 hp at 9000 rpm has a comparatively charakter. But even if something at low gears the large 1215 cubic triple has reserves for relaxed overtaking: a whopping 121 newton meters are available at 6400 rpm.
The motor is supplied by a sequential multi-point injection. The throttle position is controlled electronically, allowing the use of assistance systems such as traction control. The traction control is fitted as standard equipment like a turn-off ABS as well as a speed control.
For a high level of user comfort the multi-disc clutch is hydraulically operated. The drive shaft is integrated in the swingarm.
The rear monoshoc bears 194 mm travel. The preload is remote controlled, the rebound can be adjusted directly on the damper.
The front wheel is guided by a 46mm-USD-fork, which is – as the shock – manufactured by Kayaba. The preload can be adjusted, the tarvel is 190 millimeters.
The wheels match with diameters of 17 and 19 inch the current class standard.
